My Story
Hi, I’m Mary Katherine, and I’m on the threshold of turning 65. It’s a milestone that often comes with a heavy focus on financial planning, but I’ve been reflecting on what I can give myself for this birthday, and I’ve decided on the gift of strength. Why can’t I be in the best shape and the strongest I’ve ever been at 65? I hope you’ll join me on this journey, and I’d like to share how I embarked on this endeavor.
At the age of 42, I received a diagnosis of severe hypothyroidism, and my doctor prescribed medication. Instead of viewing it as a barrier, I saw it as a challenge to work in harmony with my medication to achieve the best possible health. Prior to my diagnosis, I had already noticed my musculoskeletal system was deteriorating, and I was determined not to let that define my future.
My love for weightlifting goes all the way back to the 80s when I fell in love with it at a gym called Quads Gym. I picked weightlifting back up as a hobby and realized that there’s no magic exercise program and consistency was the key. One month in, I witnessed positive changes in my strength and overall well-being.
Now, I’ve set a personal challenge to be in the best shape possible for my senior years. I refuse to succumb to the cliché that “the golden years are not so golden.” I firmly believe that I have the power to define how I age by strengthening my legs, core, and yes, even my glutes. That’s where the idea of ‘Baby Boomer Booty Booster’ arose.
